Those who have been following Peugeot’s launches in EUA for some time remember when the cars arrived here already quite out of date with the matrix. The 308 was one of the emblematic cases: while a new generation gained strength in Europe, in EUA the hatch received small aesthetic changes. Now under the command of Stellantis, Peugeot has improved its sales momentum and market presence. Let’s see if she learned her lesson!
I did this whole introduction to say that Peugeot has just revealed the mid-life restyling of the 2008 in Europe. The compact SUV gets subtle modifications, but is now more beautiful. With this update, the Brazilian 2008 is doubly behind: Peugeot sells the old combustion generation and the current 100% electric one. And now? Will it maintain this or will it offer a model in line with what is offered to Europe?
Aesthetically, the main change is at the front, with a new redesigned grille and a new lighting signature with three LED claws characteristic of the brand, accompanied by new LED headlights. New wheels were also added, as well as two new body colors: Selenium Gray and Okenite White. The car also finally adopts the new Peugeot logo.
Matthias Hossann, the brand’s design director, highlighted that the model’s design is a key element in the success of the compact SUV. He highlights that the front of the vehicle is specially designed to highlight the signature three claws and reinforce the SUV’s robust and muscular style.
At the rear, the lights have also been modified, with a new lighting signature that groups three double horizontal segments, forming the traditional lion’s claw. Furthermore, a black strip appears above the license plate niche, which includes the new high-definition reversing camera, and the brand emblem has been removed, giving way to a “Peugeot” sign on the trunk lid.
Inside, the new Peugeot 2008 2024 boasts new fabric and Alcantara finishes, as well as new USB-C ports and a USB-A port. The car has a 10-inch screen as standard (previously offered as standard or optional, depending on the version), while the digital instrument panel features a new design. The new 2008 maintains the same exterior dimensions: 4.30 meters long, 1.987 meters wide (including mirrors), 1.55 meters high. The trunk volume remains unchanged, at 434 liters.
e-2008 becomes more powerful
In Brazil, Peugeot already sells the new generation 2008 in the electric version. However, in addition to the look, the electrical configuration will be outdated. This is because, in Europe, the e-2008 gets a new engine, now with 156 horsepower, 20 more than before. And it is equipped with a 54 kWh battery that promises a range of up to 406 km (WLTP cycle). The other combustion versions (gasoline or diesel) are still on offer with powers of 100 and 130 horsepower for gasoline or 130 for diesel.
For 2024, Peugeot’s plan is to launch a 48V mild-hybrid version, which combines a 136-horsepower PureTech gasoline engine with a six-speed electrified dual-clutch transmission, which integrates an electric motor and a self-rechargeable battery. The Leão brand promises up to 15% savings.
The new Peugeot 2008 2024 arrives on the European market in the second half of the year. We still don’t know what Peugeot will do in Brazil and other Latin countries with the SUV.
STANDARD ITEMS: one-piece folding rear seat, steering wheel controls for radio and Bluetooth, reverse-indexed rear windscreen wiper, perimeter alarm, exterior mirrors with electrical controls, matte black finish on the window frames, adjustable rear headrests height, antenna on the roof, reversing camera, displays with LCD matrix and red pointers, sequential/anti-pinch driver’s electric window, cruise control and speed limiter, ECO mode, front fog lights, electric windows on the rear doors, radio Peugeot Connect 7-inch touchscreen, 2 front airbags, 2 side airbags, among others.
The brand’s strongest in Brazil, the 1.6 THP Flex engine powers the Peugeot 2008 2023 only in the Griffe version. It delivers 166 hp on gasoline and 173 hp on ethanol, both at 6,000 rpm, while torque is 24.5 kgfm from 1,400 rpm.
There is only a six-speed automatic transmission in this configuration. This engine is the basis of the French brand’s high-end range, including the imported Peugeot 3008 .
