After the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the BMW M division , the time has come for another German company to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its sports division: the Volkswagen R Performance . To mark two decades, the brand launches the Golf R 20 Years Edition , the most powerful Golf ever made in history. The novelty will keep the 2.0 turbo engine , but it will deliver 333 hp – 13 hp more than the traditional Golf R. The double-clutch transmission has seven gears and, as in all hatches prepared since 2002, the traction is integral .To annoy the neighbors with a respectful rumble, the car features a titanium sports exhaust from Akrapovic, in addition to a function called “Emotional Start”, which accelerates the engine to 2,500 revolutions as soon as the driver starts the engine.
The DSG transmission was remapped to offer more abrupt responses in gear changes, especially on climbs, and increase the emotion of those driving – since the system changes are usually very smooth. Changes to the turbocharger also made accelerations quicker. The special edition will be offered in blue with glossy black finish wheels or white with blue painted wheels. But in both cases the tires will be the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 , special for the tracks. Other differences from the Golf R 20 Years include covers for the mirrors (blue on the white car, black on the blue ones), badges with the number “ 20” on the driver’s door pillar and sill lighting with the “20 R” logo . In the cabin there are carbon fiber details on the center panel and doors, as well as a blue “R” on the steering wheel. The commemorative version can be pre-ordered from June 2nd and will be sold in Europe and Australia. There is no limited number of units, but it will only be offered for one year. Prices have not yet been announced, but the bets are that the values will be between $55,000 and $60,000.
